What’s Covered in This Module:

– Etiology, risk factors, types of cancer and the dynamics of various diets, metabolic syndrome, and inflammation in relation to cancer development and treatment. 

– Deeper look into hormone cancers.

– Role of oxidative stress and cancer

– Specific diets, foods, compounds, supplements, and carcinogenic molecules that influence the development or regression of cancer. 

– Alternative treatments and therapies.

 

Objectives:

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to…

1: Examine the crucial dynamic between inflammation and cancer with focus on fatty acid types, angiogenesis, anti-inflammatory supplements, and specific laboratory parameters pertaining to inflammation.

2: Discover the influencing factors that lead to hormone cancers; and the nutritional and environmental modulators of estrogen metabolism.

3: Explain the relationship between oxidative stress, antioxidant defense capacity, and cancer- including glycation of sugar/ fats, SOD2, specific antioxidants (Vitamin C, E, A, glutathione, resveratrol, CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid, and selenium).

4: Review the influence of pH levels, various diets, specific foods, compounds, and genetic polymorphisms that are pro- or anti- cancer inducing.

5: Detail the impact of fermented foods, acidosis (alkalinity), Vitamin D, Vitamin K2, sulforaphane, proteolytic enzymes, and binders on cancer.

6: Evaluate different herbal and natural agents that aid cancer mitigation.

7: Explore the Functional Medicine perspective and all the modalities of treatment for cancer including remission, chemotherapy and radiation side effects, and alternative adjuncts (massage, reiki, essential oils, hyperbaric oxygen, infrared sauna, traditional Chinese medicine methods, stem cell therapy, biofield healing, etc.)

Practice Exercises:

Exercise 1: What is the “master switch” for cancer and what foods inhibit its expression? 

Exercise 2: List 15 foods that are anti-angiogenic; and why this is important.

Exercise 3: List 8 methods to increase a 2:16 estrogen ratio. List 5 strategies for preventing breast cancer and 5 strategies for a patient with active breast cancer.

Exercise 3: List 8 foods high in copper and 4 methods for lowering copper levels.  

Exercise 4: List 5 methods for decreasing AGEs/ALEs in the body, 3 ways to increase SOD2, and 4 supplements to promote glycation reduction.

Exercise 5:  List 6 phytochemicals that mitigate cancer and which foods are they found in.

Exercise 6: List the pros and cons of ketogenic diet, caloric restriction, intermittent fasting (including FMD), water fasting, and CRM (calorie restriction mimetics)

Exercise 7: List 6 essential oils with anti-cancer properties.
